Despite many PCNs and practices having access to a wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT), experience shows that a lot of practices struggle with effectively and efficiently utilising the expertise in order to achieve positive outcomes for the practice.
This inexperience of the roles, ever-demanding workload, and financial pressures in primary care can make the prospect of investing time to set up, deliver and measure the return on investment for the various roles within your MDT, particularly daunting. This lack of time and knowledge of the role can lead to:
• No reduction or, even worse, an increase in practice workload
• Incorrect use of a valuable skillset
• Poor job satisfaction and therefore retention
We are passionate about supporting practices, primary care networks, federations, and CCGs to effectively embed pharmacists and other healthcare professional roles, as part of the multi-disciplinary team. We strive to remove the struggle and worry that inevitably comes with recruiting, planning, and ensuring successful execution of a new role, and we’ve packaged our extensive experience of successful delivery into SMART.
SMART is an innovative solution supported by a customised SMART web platform to help you to achieve the desired outcomes, quickly, safely, and effectively including:
Reporting at federation, PCN, and practice level which:
• Accelerates productivity and performance
• Supports deployment and rollout of ARRS investment
• Improves visibility on the ROI on pharmacist and other ARRS roles
• Enables easy tracking for PCNs to ensure that the requirements of the national service specifications, for the ARRS roles are met
Consistent simplified performance development which:
• Enables effective and safe delivery from day one
• Supports practices to recruit, manage and retain their workforce
• Enables focused approach for organisations and PCNs to manage performance development and ensure the workforce is on track and equipped to deliver what is required across multiple practices
Clinical management tools and templates for practices and pharmacists:
• Drives standardisation and quality
• Reduces duplication of effort and variation

Your workforce will also have access to a network of over 1,000 pharmacists, with the opportunity to attend free training workshops and access to online resources.
We share your passion to develop your primary care workforce and believe that all roles within the MDT play a critical role in helping improve access and care to patients.

“We commissioned SMART for our pharmacy workforce in March 2020 recognising that we had ambitious plans to rapidly expand the workforce in the next two years and that we needed a structured framework to ensure standardised delivery of the clinical pharmacist and technician role across our 6 PCNs.
The support we commissioned, including 4D Accelerator sessions with our senior pharmacists, ensured a shared vision and agreed set of competencies as well as a delivery plan for the service. This enabled us to use the SMART platform to quickly create a map of baseline competencies and capabilities which highlighted and identified training and development needs. We now have a focused development plan and set of agreed service milestones, KPIs including DES deliverables like SMRs; best of all, we have visibility of all of these to share with our PCNs.
Having expanded our team rapidly to already having 25 clinical pharmacists and 6 technicians, SMART has been vital in providing assurance to the PCNs about the quality of the pharmacy workforce and has given us all clarity of service deliverables and priorities. Because Soar Beyond also has the i2i Network, we have been delighted that we are now addressing one of our key development needs around managing frail older patients by implementing a federation-wide quality improvement (QI) initiative including training, upskilling and systematic review and management.
I feel the structure of the SMART platform and the wrap-around support of the Soar Beyond team has been instrumental in helping us to rapidly standardise and provide quality service and would recommend this for services- both large and small.”
“Prior to my ACCELERATOR Session with Ziad, Senior Pharmacist @Soar Beyond, there was angst and trepidation from the team about taking on SMRs.
Hearing from an experienced pharmacist has helped to address some of their concerns and for me to mobilise my team to deliver on the PCN DES. The six-month programme has really supported me in managing and leading my new team, to be able to deliver to the needs of the PCN and individual practices.”
